Healthy eating demonstration for pupils living in property in Bethnal Green
Children living in property in Bethnal Green could be set to benefit from a healthier lifestyle as a result of local authority initiatives.
Tower Hamlets Council has been raising awareness of the importance of healthy eating and recently arranged a demonstration to highlight the dangers of junk food.
Chefs from The Real Fast Food Show visited Oaklands Secondary School to show pupils how fast food is cooked.
They also demonstrated how school meals are prepared and pupils expressed surprise at the amount of preservatives and salt going into the junk food.
Clair Hawkins, lead member for children's services at Tower Hamlets Council, remarked: "It was a simple but effective way to reinforce healthy eating messages that we hope will stay with them into adulthood."
Last month, a number of historic buildings in the East London borough were formally recognised by English Heritage - being awarded grade II listings.
