Hammersmith residents form action group
People living in property to rent in the London borough of Hammersmith could find it easier to speak up for their rights as residents in the months to come.
That is thanks to the formation of Hamra, the Hammersmith Mall Residents' Association.
Residents in the area were inspired to take action after plans were announced to change a play area to cater for youths aged eight to 13, rather than for toddlers.
They had the plans overturned - and were spurred on to create an official group to deal with any such issues in the future.
Andrew Alers-Hankey, a member of Hamra, says: "I honestly don't know why there hasn't been a residents' association up until now.
"When you come from an area where there is one, you know what it can do."
He adds that the Hammersmith Mall area is "a tremendous asset" which attracts a great number of visitors.
Landlords are offered assistance by Hammersmith & Fulham Council to bring empty properties back to the rental market, helping to increase the supply of property to rent in the London borough of Hammersmith and allow more people to call the region home.
