Hackney residents take on green challenge
Several people rent Hackney property have signed up to a new environmental challenge.
Residents on the Whiston and Goldsmith Estate are taking part in the Hackney Homes Green Estate programme, which is backed by London Energy Efficiency.
As part of the pilot scheme, participants will investigate the different opportunities that are open to them for reducing the carbon footprints of their properties.
The initiative has the full backing of the London borough of Hackney and aims to address the full range of green homeowner issues, spanning energy consumption, renewable supplies and recycling.
Commenting on the scheme, Alan Turner from Hackney Homes said his organisation serves as a landlord to more than 30,000 properties and is making energy efficiency one of its top priorities.
"We are working with the residents on Whiston and Goldsmith for the next year to see what can be achieved," he asserted in an interview with website 24dash.com.
"The estate is quite typical of the types of building we have in the borough, so we hope to be able to extend this programme in the future."
