Hackney residents benefit from on-the-go recycling bins
Residents living in property to rent in the London borough of Hackney, and others in the area, will benefit from the installation of new on-the-go recycling bins.
The aim is for the council to make it easier for people in the area to recycle and do their bit for the environment.
All of the bins are equipped with two different compartments - one for rubbish and one for recycling.
They will allow people to recycle their newspapers, plastic bottles, cans, glass bottles and cartons.
A trial took place in the area last year, with bins rolled out in Hackney Central, Stoke Newington and Shoreditch. This resulted in more than 40 tonnes of material being recycled.
Following the trial period, almost all Hackney residents said they wanted to see the bins play a more prominent role in the borough.
So, for the first time, they will be installed in parks, as well as a number of main roads in the area. Retail sites will also benefit from the bins later this year.
"We know that over half the rubbish that goes into our litter bins is recyclable. By providing these new bins we are delivering on our commitment to support residents to keep as much waste as possible away from landfill sites," explained councillor Feryal Demirci, cabinet member for neighbourhoods at Hackney Council.
Residents in flats to rent in the London borough of Hackney were told at the end of last month that green spaces in the area would benefit from a new grant.
The Friends of Kynaston Gardens, which is located in Stoke Newington, have received an impressive £48,225 grant from Groundwork UK and the Big Lottery Fund's Community Spaces initiative to improve areas in the borough.
It will be working to boost the site, which is owned and managed by Hackney Council, so residents in the area can benefit from it.
