Hackney One Carnival set for a return
People living in property to rent in the London borough of Hackney will be able to get involved in the Hackney One Carnival when it returns next month.
Streets in the area will be brought to life with some amazing costumes, fantastic dance routines and fun music events when it comes to the borough on August 7th.
This is the fourth year the council-run event has taken place and it will see hundreds of performers from the area taking part.
It is hoped residents in the borough will also have a great opportunity to celebrate arts and culture as part of the Cultural Olympiad in the run up to next year's London Games.
The parade for the carnival will be starting from Ridley Road Market at midday, before it moves north to Stoke Newington Church Street. It will finish at Clissold Park at 14:00 BST.
At the park, the Parks for Life event will be taking place, with music, dance and other activities on show for all to enjoy until 18:00 BST.
More than 8,000 residents and visitors took to the streets to join in last year and it is hoped this year will see an even bigger turnout for the event.
Hackney Council's 2012 Unit and its local carnival groups are organising the 2011 event, which gives people the opportunity to showcase their heritage and culture.
Jules Pipe, mayor of Hackney, said: "With just one year to go until the 2012 Games, Hackney One Carnival is a great way for residents to come out and celebrate our role as a host borough and to get involved in a community event which has proved to be extremely popular for the past three years."
On Sunday July 24th, Hackney will be hosting a Celebrate One Year to Go to London 2012 event at Haggerton Park, where people will be able to join in some traditional sports day activities, such as egg and spoon races and long jump events.
