Hackney Council launches local shopping promotion
People living in flats to rent in Hackney are being encouraged to shop locally this Christmas to support the area's economy.
Hackney Council has launched a new campaign called Love Hackney, Shop Local, an initiative supported by more than 100 businesses that aims to highlight the high-quality service provided by local traders.
Particular focus is being given to the street markets at Broadway, Chatsworth, Ridley Road, Hoxton, Kingsland Waste and Well Street, which can potentially offer unique festive items that cannot be found elsewhere.
In particular, the market at Chatsworth Road will be hosting a series of seasonal events such as carol singing, while mince pies and Christmas trees will be sold.
Feryal Demirci, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: "Hackney markets offer unique goods that you wouldn't find anywhere else and you're guaranteed to pick up a bargain."
Last week, the local authority announced the return of the annual Festive Feast at Stoke Newington Town Hall.
