Greenwich council leader proposes tax freeze
Residents of the London borough of Greenwich could be set to benefit from a freeze in council tax.
Those renting a house or flat in the borough will not have to pay any extra next year, should council leader Chris Roberts' plan be approved.
Representatives will vote on the proposal next month and Mr Roberts said that it will be particularly welcome in light of news that the average increase in council tax across England will be 3.5 per cent.
He added that the council's budget management has been "unparalleled" in the capital over the last ten years, stating: "We have seen Greenwich go from having the second highest council tax in London to being 22nd of 32 boroughs."
In that time, the charge has risen by just 27 per cent, Greenwich Council noted.
Earlier this month Kensington & Chelsea council announced that those who pay council tax would be provided with a one-off efficiency dividend of £50.
