Finishing touches made to Hackney handball arena
Those living in property to rent in the London borough of Hackney will soon be able to check out the Olympic handball arena that is being built in their area.
The finishing touches are currently being made to the venue, which will be used in the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Mayor of Hackney, Jules Pipe, and four councillors recently got a sneak preview of the arena, which features more than 3,000 sq m of external copper cladding.
Councillor Guy Nicholson, cabinet member for regeneration and 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, said: "This is an impressive example of contemporary architecture at its best. Its quality and the speed at which it has been built are a credit to the British construction industry."
The venue will not just host handball during the Olympic Games, but fencing, modern pentathlon and the Paralympic sport goalball.
Last month, Hackney Council confirmed that it was to purchase 100 Olympic Games tickets and give them to young people in the borough who have excelled in sport.
