Ealing gardeners reminded to recycle garden waste
Keen gardeners living in property to rent in the London borough of Ealing are being urged to compost or recycle their garden waste.
Ealing Council asserts that garden waste makes up about 30 per cent of the average household bin.
It claims that this waste should not be sent to landfill when it can be easily recycled or composted.
The items that can be put in the reusable sacks provided to households by the council include grass cuttings, twigs, hedge trimmings, plants, weeds, flowers and leaves.
These sacks are then collected by the council once a week, but gardeners can also choose to recycle green waste themselves using a compost bin.
Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport and environment, said: "There's nothing like the smell of a freshly mown lawn and you can use grass cuttings to make your own compost."
Earlier this month, the council announced that the Schools Recycling scheme had saved more than 260 tonnes of food waste and cardboard from going to landfill sites.
