Community centre 'could make flats to rent in London appealing'
People looking at flats to rent in the London borough of Barking & Dagenham could benefit from a new community project in the area.
As part of the Barking Riverside development, the Rivergate Centre is being constructed to house a number of local amenities.
As well as a primary school, it will be home to units for social enterprise, a place of worship and health facilities.
These will be based around a public square which will include seating areas, a clock tower, small shops and a cafe.
The scheme is being undertaken by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) in conjunction with Bellway Homes and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
David Lunts, London Director for the HCA, said giving new residents to the area great facilities is a "priority".
"The Rivergate Centre will be the hub of the community and it's an extremely important part of the vision for Barking Riverside," he added.
Meanwhile, nine local community building projects in the capital are being supported by the HCA and they will provide rented accommodation for 665 people.
