Can tenants still save money during winter?
While homeowners in the UK are increasingly being advised to modernise their central heating systems and of the money they could save by purchasing a new boiler or becoming more energy efficient, those renting a home may feel there is little they can do to lower their energy bills.
However, according to one group, there are a number of steps that people can take in order to reduce their winter energy bills, whether or not they own their home.
Speaking to the Evesham Journal, experts from Travis Perkins Evesham and Chipping Norton revealed that £65 could be knocked off annual heating bills, simply by turning down the thermostat one degree Celsius.
And should a tenant be set to leave their hone unoccupied over Christmas in order to spend the festive period with their family, the group recommended switching off the thermostat.
John Brooks, a plumbing expert at the company, said: "Now more than ever, people are looking to save money around the house and if a few simple steps can save you some cash, it's surely worth doing."
Such comments may prove useful to people looking for property to rent in Shoreditch or another part of London ahead of the winter - and they may also wish to ensure the landlord has had all gas appliances serviced.
