Barking Station to undergo further improvement work
Those occupying flats to rent in Barking will see a number of improvements at Barking Station in the coming months.
Councillors at the London borough of Barking & Dagenham have confirmed that the first round of renovation at the station is currently underway, with a second phase to take place between January and March 2012.
Costing around £1.3 million, the renovations are intended to double the amount of public space in front of the station, while also introducing new bus stops, taxi pickup points and cycle parking.
Until works are completed, the council warned that there will be some disruption to transport networks, although local businesses will continue to operate as normal.
Mick McCarthy, cabinet member for regeneration at the local authority, said: "We apologise for any inconvenience to the public but the works will make a huge difference to residents and commuters."
The improvement work follows a recent consultation, in which local residents said they wish to see less overcrowding, more waiting spaces and better security at the station.
