Wandsworth Council approves new Embassy Gardens plan
New flats to rent in Wandsworth could be created after the local council signed off on plans to develop a new business and residential area called Embassy Gardens.
To be situated in the Nine Elms regeneration zone, the development is being planned by property company Ballymore and would provide up to 1,982 new homes, as well as shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
Also planned for Embassy Gardens are six acres of outdoor public space, a health centre, children's playgrounds and a 100-bed hotel, all situated in the vicinity of the new US embassy.
The proposals are expected to bring thousands of new jobs to the Wandsworth area.
Wandsworth Council's planning chairman Nick Cuff said: "Through the scheme's legal agreement we have ensured that Wandsworth residents directly benefit from the rising property values in Nine Elms."
This comes in the same week that the council announced plans to extend the Northern Line Tube route to Nine Elms, which could deliver between £1.6 billion and £7.9 billion in growth to the national economy.
