Twickenham residents urged to watch for metal thieves
People living in property to rent in Twickenham have been asked to be the eyes and ears of the local council and police force following a spate of metal thefts.
Earlier this month, a large bronze plaque on the Radnor Gardens war memorial in Twickenham was taken by metal thieves just a few weeks before Remembrance Sunday.
Leader of Richmond Council Lord True said it was "appalling" that unscrupulous individuals would do such a thing so close to one of the most important commemorative events honouring Britain's war dead.
"It is a serious criminal act displaying greed, arrogance and contempt for human life," he added. "Anyone who knows who is responsible and has any feeling for those in our armed forces still putting their lives on the line should turn these people in."
Lord True continued: "I would ask residents and Neighbourhood Watch groups to keep watch where they live for anyone acting unusually or suspicious vehicles or vessels on our roads or along the river."
Earlier this month, commuters in Twickenham received a boost when the council confirmed it will grit more pavements if snow and ice affect the area this winter.
