Twickenham regatta to make comeback after 50 years
People living in property to rent in Twickenham will be able to see a celebrated sporting event make a return after a 50-year hiatus next month.
Thanks to a £5,000 grant from Richmond Council's Civic Pride Fund, the Charlie Shore Boys and Girls Regatta will take place on Saturday September 17th.
Sponsored by the Richmond Environmental Information Centre (REIC) in partnership with the Twickenham Rowing Club, the event will feature a series of boat races.
Twenty young residents aged between 13 and 16 will battle it out on the 350-metre course during the regatta, which was founded in 1894 and last held in 1958.
Councillor Pamela Fleming, Richmond Council's strategic cabinet member for community, business and culture, said: "The regatta will bring people from all over the borough together to appreciate our beautiful public open spaces and waterfront."
Last month, young people in Twickenham were invited to share their views on the future of the area and give their opinions on proposals outlined in the Twickenham Area Action Plan.
