Tenants in flats to rent in London may benefit from recycling initiative
People living in flats to rent in London could be set to benefit from improved recycling facilities after £1.35 million was pledged to help waste services in the capital.
The London Waste and Recycling Board (LWARB) has awarded funding to 12 boroughs that bid for the money, including Havering, Waltham Forest and Croydon.
Tenants and flat owners will see better signage, more accessible bins, mini recycling banks on floors of buildings, more frequent collections and recycling bins in kitchens.
Mayor Boris Johnson said: "This funding is great news as it will provide practical, common sense ways to make recycling easier for people in London."
James Cleverly, chair of the LWARB, explained the projects will divert a total of 41,000 tonnes of waste from landfill over a period of four years, as well as save almost 44,000 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
Earlier this month, chief executive of Home Sun Daniel Green praised the government's focus on improving properties' carbon footprints, which may affect those in flats to rent in London.
