Richmond youngsters set to benefit from range of summer activities
Youngsters living in property to rent in the London borough of Richmond on Thames, as well as others in the area, are set to enjoy a wide range of summer activities this year.
The school holidays have kicked off already, which has led to Richmond Council launching a new 2011 summer programme, to entertain young people living in the borough,
There are a wide range of activities and events on offer, from summer photography school, to splash-crash swimming courses and rookie lifeguard classes.
Richmond Council hopes the programme will ensure children and young people have fun this summer, as well as keep active and are able to enjoy themselves in a safe environment.
Many of the events are available free of charge, so plenty of youngsters will be able to get involved.
The programme is aimed at young people aged between two and 19 and the activities tend to be suitable for all abilities, as well as a number being family friendly.
Councillor Pamela Fleming, Richmond Council's cabinet member for community, business and culture, said because a number of parents have to work during the summer holidays, they end up being reliant upon friends and family to care for their children, or they have to fork out for childcare.
"This programme of activity is an affordable way of providing children and young people with something fun to do over the six weeks' break. The programme of activity changes daily and all the staff are highly qualified and trained," she added.
At the end of last month, it was revealed that children in Richmond upon Thames borough are likely to secure more free tickets to watch the London Olympic Games than youngsters in any other part of South-West London.
Some 32 schools in the area have so far signed up to the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games' Get Set Network, offering free tickets.
