Richmond council to launch planning webcast
Those living in property to rent in the London borough of Richmond Upon Thames will soon be able to watch council planning meetings online.
The cabinet member for environment and the chair of the planning committee have agreed to planning meetings being webcasted over the next year.
It is hoped that, by improving access to these meetings, the public will gain a better understanding of how the local planning authority functions and makes decisions.
Councillor Virginia Morris, the cabinet member for environment and planning, said that the internet is helping the council to be "open and transparent".
"We need to take advantage of new technology and use it to engage with our communities and encourage them to take a greater interest in how the council works," she added.
Last week, Richmond Upon Thames Council announced that its senior members were to consider proposals to generate an additional £3 million of revenue from non-council tax sources over the next three years.
