Renting 'allows people to get bearings'
For many first-time buyers, accessing mortgage finance "remains a dream", according to one property expert, which may mean that renting is currently a more realistic option to finding a home in the capital.
Ally James from south Yorkshire recently wrote to Sam Dunn, house doctor at the Independent, saying she was "desperate" for advice on whether she and her partner should buy a home or look for property to rent in London when they move.
She explained that they had recently sold a flat in Manchester and made a loss which they had been left "scarred by".
Ms Dunn answered, saying: "Get your bearings whilst renting, so that you make the right choice of home. Ultimately, the decision to buy will come back to whether you have found the property that suits you."
Her comments come after the Times' Ann Ashworth said property was proving popular in Clapham, Fulham and Wandsworth, which may be causing prices to rise.
