Putney residents consulted on new school improvements

Putney residents consulted on new school improvementsFamilies seeking flats to rent in Putney could soon see enhancements to the local Elliott School, with proposals for improvement plans now under consultation.

Residents are being asked to share their views on plans by school governors, Wandsworth Council and education charity ARK Schools to remodel the educational facility and relaunch it as an academy in September 2012.

Part of the school's grounds will be sold off to raise funds for a major remodelling project, which would encompass the creation of new sports facilities and improvements to the building's integrity.

The closing date of the consultation has been set for May 24th, though further opportunities for comment will be offered later this year on subsequent planning applications for the school.

Kathy Tracey, cabinet member for education and children's services, said: "This is a terrific opportunity to carry out much-needed improvements to this grade II listed building and secure the future of the school."

Last month, Wandsworth Council also announced the completion of the sale of the former Putney Hospital, which will pave the way for the creation of a new primary school at the location.
