New bus lane for Merton residents
Residents of the London borough of Merton are set to benefit as a result of the introduction of a new bus lane.
Work is to begin later this month, with Transport for London (TFL) and Merton Council announcing that access to Mitcham town centre will be improved.
Northbound buses will be able to run along London Road without diverting via Lower Green West, resulting in shorter journey times for four routes in the area.
"We will carefully monitor the impact of these changes to ensure we continue to provide the best possible bus services for people in this area," said head of responsive bus priority at TFL Scott Lester.
Pedestrian crossing facilities are also to be enhanced on London Road, with work due to last between eight and ten weeks.
A recent study by Hometrack identified Merton as the borough that had seen the sharpest annual house price decline at 14.5 per cent, a figure that may prompt those thinking of living in the area to rent rather than buy.
