Merton and Richmond to launch fully-shared legal services
People living in flats to rent in the London borough of Merton or Richmond stand to benefit from the launch of a fully-shared legal service.
Both London boroughs will combine their legal services, helping them reduce their costs, with long-term savings expecting to run into thousands of pounds.
Residents of property in the London borough of Richmond or Merton will receive enhanced legal services, due to there being more in-house expertise on offer.
Lawyers will be able to work on cases where they have the most experience or where they are most able to match the needs of their client.
The shared services will be fully operational by October this year.
Councillor Mark Allison, cabinet member for finance at Merton Council, said: "By joining legal teams with Richmond we can get economies of scale.
"Because there will be more in-house expertise we won't need to hire as many expensive external lawyers, and so we will have a better service."
Recently, the council's Overview and Scrutiny Commission called for people to suggest changes which could be made to their local area in a bid to improve public services.
