Mayor pledges apprenticeship recruitment
More than 3,000 apprenticeships are to be created in London over the next three years, it has been announced.
Mayor of the capital Boris Johnson confirmed that the Greater London Authority (GLA) group is on track to meet the target, with plans in place to boost the economy through the measures.
The next year is set to see Transport for London and its contractors recruit around 650 adults and 115 youngsters, while police will provide around 150 apprenticeships.
Mr Johnson explained that he is "confident" London will emerge from the recession in a strong position, but added: "We must be ready and that means - even during this uncertain period - we must keep up our training schemes so we have a skilled workforce for the future."
The GLA group is also working with its suppliers in an effort to encourage the creation of more apprenticeship schemes, which could further increase job opportunities for those living in the capital.
Wandsworth Council recently revealed that the recruitment of more apprentices is one of the measures it is considering to enhance its own economy.
