Infrastructure boost for London boroughs
London councils are to be awarded £1.5 million by the government in order to help manage infrastructure, it has been revealed.
A total of 30 boroughs submitted bids for help with overseeing roads, bridges and other assets and each is being given £50,000.
Transport for London is also set to receive the same amount, as steps are taken to improve the quality of life for those living in the capital.
"High quality local highways are vital to communities; connecting people with work, shops, services, families and friends," said transport minister Paul Clark, adding that the level of interest seen "demonstrates a real understanding of the importance of asset management" in delivering public services.
Councils are expected to use the funding to gather information about streetlights, bridges and roads in their borough.
Earlier this week, the government revealed that a grant of up to £284,000 is being awarded to Hounslow, to help with road safety improvement efforts.
