Hounslow to benefit from road safety funding
Funding is to be provided to help improve road safety in the London borough of Hounslow, it has been revealed.
A total of eight local authorities across England are to benefit from £3.6 million, with up to £284,000 being awarded to Hounslow.
The government revealed that the grant will be used for a tailored road safety programme in the borough, which is directed at the Somali community.
"I look forward to seeing the results of this exciting project in Hounslow," said road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick, adding that the initiative "will help to spread good practice around the country and make our roads safer for everyone".
He noted that Britain already has an excellent record, with deaths in 2007 at their lowest level since records began over 80 years ago.
Last week Transport for London announced that a theatre production is to tour 19 boroughs in order to educate schoolchildren about the need for road safety.
