Hounslow council in green pledge
The London borough of Hounslow is to take part in a national scheme to help tackle climate change.
Run by the Carbon Trust, the programme is designed to help local authorities support the fight against global warming.
"Climate change is the greatest environmental challenge facing the world today, but we must never forget that local actions do make a difference," said councillor Barbara Reid, Hounslow's lead member for the environment.
Research has revealed that Local councils, including Hounslow, can cut carbon emissions by up to 150 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
"As a council we aim to support and inspire everyone in the borough to help Hounslow go greener," councillor Reid continued.
It is thought that the council will now produce a Greener Hounslow Carbon Management Programme to reduce emissions from vehicles, buildings, landfill sites and street lights.
The borough's carbon pledge follows news last month that the Hounslow property led the drop in house prices in the capital, with prices falling 4.4 per cent.
