Good reasons 'to feel positive about renting'
Landlords have "very good reasons" to feel positive about the current rental market, one sector commentator has asserted.
According to recent research by Upad.co.uk, over half of UK landlords felt more confident about the buy-to-let market this month than they did in January.
James Davis, founder and chief executive officer of Upad, said it was the third consecutive month since first founding the survey that that landlords have pointed to growing confidence in the industry.
He added in light of this it was likely a number of new soon-to-be property professionals are likely to enter the sector, as renting homes becomes "increasingly popular".
Commenting on the news, a spokesman for the National Approved Letting Scheme said there were good reasons to feel positive about the rental market, as it was relied upon to fill the housing gap.
"There is a serious shortage of housing, so a lot of people are going to have to rent as it is the only way they are going to get a roof over their head. Coupled with that, there are also people who now prefer to rent and that was starting before the credit crunch," he added.
Such thinking may have been behind some people's decision to choose flats to rent in Fulham or another part of London, as this can be far more affordable than buying.
