Flats to rent in Croydon 'to be near new world class venue'
Those seeking property to rent in the London borough of Croydon could enjoy watching athletics in a world class venue at a revamped Crystal Palace, under a new plan proposed today.
A blueprint for the Olympic Stadium in Stratford issued by Tottenham Hotspur revealed the Premiership Club would dismantle the existing stadium if it got to move into it after 2012.
The stands would then be move to Crystal Palace to provide a modern venue with top-class facilities to replace the current old stadium, while the football club would rebuild the Stratford venue with new stands close to the pitch, with no running track in the way.
It is one of two bids on the table by London football clubs, with West Ham United also keen on moving in.
Should the Tottenham bid win it could have major benefits for the Crystal Palace area, which is not included in the Olympic venues.
However, those who live in South London can see the tennis at Wimbledon and modern pentathlon and equestrian events at Greenwich Park.
