Croydon Council scraps plans to extend hours of controlled parking zone
People living in the London borough of Croydon may be pleased to learn that their local council has decided not to extend the operating hours of the outer areas of the central controlled parking zone.
Last year, the traffic management cabinet committee of Croydon Council considered proposals to extend the hours from 09:00 - 17:00 GMT on Monday to Saturday, to 08:00 - 00:00, seven days a week.
The council received almost 4,000 objections along with 15 submitted petitions and so elected to reject the proposals.
However, the extended hours are still being applied in a small number of roads around Croydon University Hospital, Thornton Heath.
Councillor Phil Thomas, cabinet member for environment and highways, said: "Listening to the concerns of residents is a cornerstone of the democratic process and, taking heed of what they said to us, we've drastically amended the proposals outlined in the original report."
Earlier this month, Croydon Council announced that it was setting up a £100,000 cash pot to help get projects to improve the local community off the ground.
