Case put forward for private landlords
Many private landlords "look after their tenants really well", according to Stuart Law, the chief executive and founder of property investment adviser group Assetz.
Despite suggesting larger landlord companies can be more reliable, the industry expert said tenants can often benefit from a more personal service.
People looking for flats to rent in Fulham or property to rent in Islington will have to decide which option suits them. It is one of many decisions renters have to make when finding the right home for them.
Mr Law remarked: "A tenant looking around is probably going to find a much better local private landlord than they would just going to a big institutional landlord. But the average tenant is probably going to be better at institutional level."
A recent report by Andrew Leyshon and Shaun French from the University of Nottingham revealed that landlords with larger portfolios have been purchasing many of the rental properties being sold for lower prices since the recession took hold.
