Can Google help tenants get cheaper bills?
Google is set to give a helping hand to Britons by providing a service that will allow them to see where they could potentially make cuts to their electricity consumption, which could see them able to save money.
The Google PowerMeter is a free piece of software available to electricity consumers which provides information on how much energy their home is using.
Properties with utility Smart Meters installed or another form of energy management device can then have the information fed into a personalised iGoogle homepage to visualise how much utilities a household is using and where they could potentially reduce this.
Such a system may help people looking for properties to rent in Wandsworth or another borough of London to save valuable money.
Commenting on the news, Peter Jenkins, head of communications and public affairs at the Energy Retail Association, said: "Smart Meters will revolutionise the way customers think about and pay for their energy."
