Campaign highlights energy help for pensioners
Pensioners living in London could be set to benefit as attention is drawn to the help they are entitled to.
A campaign, dubbed Know Your Rights, has been launched by the mayor's office along with voluntary sector organisations such as Citizens Advice and Age Concern London.
It aims to highlight the energy benefits that are available to both pensioners and carers, as it is believed up to a third of older people in the capital are missing out on around £50 per week.
Deputy mayor Richard Barnes remarked: "There are grants available for older people to install insulation and central heating or energy efficiency measures in the home - some of these can be obtained for free."
And chief executive of Citizens Advice David Harker noted that benefits designed to help with heating bills can be "a real lifesaver" for pensioners.
This week Kensington & Chelsea council announced that a one-off payment of £50 was being provided to residents paying council tax, in order to help them through the economic downturn.
