Brixton set to launch ecurrency
People living in property to rent in Brixton will be able to spend their own local ecurrency from this Thursday (September 29th).
The B£ e-currency pilot scheme is set to allow shoppers to pay online or by text for goods sold by local businesses engaging in the initiative.
Residents can open an account via brixtonpound.monea.cc and then add credit in much the same way as a pay-as-you-go mobile phone.
After that, they can have credit to pay by text at any of the participating outlets and check their account balance at any time.
As an incentive to sign up, people who register will also get ten per cent extra spending power.
In a statement, Lambeth Council said: "This will allow more opportunities and support for local trade by making payments easier and more instantaneous and by allowing bigger transactions to take place."
People in Lambeth are set to benefit from a recently launched website - Your Care, Your Way - that allows people to search for important services in the area.
