Tate Modern 'one of world's best galleries'
The Tate Modern in the Bankside area of Southwark has made it onto a list of the world's top ten art galleries, it has been confirmed.
TripAdvisor.com compiled the poll based on clickthroughs registered at its popular website, with the Tate Modern bagging the eighth spot.
Top of the list of popular haunts on the international art scene was the Musee du Louvre in Paris, while Rome's Vatican Museum followed close behind in second.
New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art secured third place and Florence's Uffizi Gallery also made it into the top ten - but it is the presence of the Thames-side gallery that will be of most interest to art fanatics in London.
One visitor at TripAdvisor.com remarked: "It is a must see, both for its setting (in a defunct power plant) and its installations and stationary art collections."
Exhibitions currently on offer at the Tate Modern include Claire Harvey: Easily-removable and A Retrospective by Juan Munoz.
