Shepherd's Bush stop and shop rebuild

West London is set for an upgrade in a set of key shopping and transport facilities, but not without causing a few months of inconvenience.

Shepherd's Bush Central line station is set to close for eight months from February 2008 onwards in order to allow a reworking of the station, in preparation for the opening of the Westfield White City shopping centre later in 2008.

Improvement works to the station will include a revamp of the ticket hall, as well as accelerated works o ancient escalators, moves which it is hoped will boost the area's appeal as a well-connected transport hub – in easy reach of top developments like the new shopping centre.

Richard Parry, London Underground's director of strategy and service development, said: "Major transport benefits will be delivered as part of the Westfield development and will enable the majority of visitors to the new centre to travel by public transport.

"This will see the construction of world-class tube stations at Wood Lane on the Hammersmith & City line and a vastly improved Shepherd's Bush station on the Central line."

Rental property in Shepherd's Bush may be set to rise in demand when the new developments come into use, meaning that now may be the best time for Londoners to set up in the booming neighbourhood.
