Abbey Wood is an area on the eastern border of the London Borough of Greenwich, between Plumstead (west) and Erith (east), Abbey Wood takes its name from the nearby Lesnes Abbey and Bostall Woods.
Abbey Woods nearest railway stations are Abbey Wood railway station. Trains from this station run to London Charing Cross and London Cannon Street via Woolwich and Greenwich or Lewisham to the west there is a limited service to London Victoria. Eastbound the trains go to Dartford with a limited service going to Crayford, Gravesend and Gillingham.
The original Abbey Wood back in the 19th century (known locally as "The Village") is the area slightly south of Abbey Wood railway station.
Built where Knee Hill became Harrow Manorway and crossed the railway (North Kent Line).
Places of interest include Lesnes Abbey and Bostall Woods & Bostall Heath. Bostall Woods (part of the South East London Green Chain) has one of a limited few camping & caravan sites in London. Bostall Woods is a well known source of fossilised animal remnants namely sharks' teeth.
