West London's buzzing borough gains visitors
The West London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham attracted more visitors in 2006 than ever before, according to new research.
Buzzing hubs like Hammersmith, Shepherds Bush and Fulham have made themselves attractive enough to attract more and more people to the borough – making it a high-demand location for rental property.
New figures for 2006 have revealed that 5,460,000 visitors came to Hammersmith and Fulham in 2006 for both leisure and business reasons, with 6,782,000 'tourist days' in the borough, marking a nine per cent increase on 2005 figures.
Councillor Frances Stainton, cabinet member for culture and heritage, said: "The rise in visitor spending is great news for the borough, as this money boosts the local economy and results in the creation of new jobs and opportunities."
"We are confident that new developments will make the borough even more attractive in the years ahead," he added.
Mr Stainton singled out free cultural walking tours and winter ice skating on Shepherds Bush Green as ways in which the borough was raising its profile and setting its sights on a booming 2008.
