Warning for residents of property in Tower Hamlets
People living in property in Tower Hamlets have been shown that the local government is keen to keep the electoral register up to date.
Highlighting the conscientiousness of the Tower Hamlets Council, a statement was released this week saying the five residents of property in Tower Hamlets who have yet to return their registration forms could be fined.
Martin Smith, chief executive of the local authority and electoral registration officer, said the council has a "legal duty" to ensure electoral register accuracy.
"We give residents ample opportunity and help to fill in their forms and the vast majority have done just that. We decided to prosecute these residents after our repeated requests were refused."
The five people living in property in Tower Hamlets who have yet to return their forms can avoid the fine by paying ahead of the proposed court date.
With the European Parliamentary elections less than a month away, it is an important time for the council to have all the correct information at their disposal.
