Uxbridge residents invited to get involved

Uxbridge residents invited to get involvedPeople living in and around Uxbridge have the chance to find out what is going on in the London Borough of Billingdon at a meeting taking place this week.

The Hillingdon London Borough Council residents' meeting takes place on Thursday September 19th and will feature speakers from the Metropolitan Police Service, Healthwatch Hillingdon and NHS Hillingdon Clinical Commissioning Group.

It is part of the local authority's Feel PROUD campaign, which is aiming to help residents feel like part of their local community and contribute to making it even better.

The meetings provide a good opportunity for people to find out what goes on behind the scenes to make the borough a nice place to live and work, explained councillor Douglas Mills, Cabinet Member for Community, Commerce and Regeneration.

It also provides people with the opportunity to get involved in the democratic process by saying what needs to be done to improve the local area, he noted.

"I hope that residents will join us on the night to find out how they can make a difference in their community and reduce crime in Hillingdon," Councillor Mills explained.

The meeting is also a chance for the area's Street Champions to converge; a group of volunteers who tell Hillingdon Council about the concerns of local people and report any environmental issues.

At the meeting, Hillingdon Police Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Steven Kershaw will also be on hand to discuss the role local people play in helping to reduce crime and provide information on the new policing model.

Graham Hawkes, Chairman of Healthwatch Hillingdon, and Natasha England, from NHS Hillingdon Clinical Commissioning Group, will also be in attendance to answer any queries about how to improve the borough.

Residents will also have the opportunity to debate issues with their local Ward Councillors during the second half of the debate, where all viewpoints and suggestions will be heard.
