Thames Gateway continues regeneration plans
The Thames Gateway area is set to receive a major economic boost, it has emerged.
Margaret Beckett, Thames Gateway minister, told a forum in East London that a strategy has been developed to improve the standard of living.
Economic development and regeneration are the key aims for the government, with up to £35 million also being invested to create green spaces.
The funding is set to help make improvements across the Thames Gateway, which includes the boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Greenwich and Lewisham.
Measures were also announced to boost education and improve skills in the area, with Ms Beckett stating: "Today's eco-region strategy and skills plan are just two of the projects ensuring we remain on course to ensure the success of one of the most ambitious regeneration schemes in Europe."
This week the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation presented a cheque for £2.4 million to schools in Newham.
