Tenants 'better off than homeowners'
People who have found property to rent in London can expect to weather the credit crisis more effectively than homeowners, according to new research.
A survey by financial website Money Expert has revealed that expenditure on commodities is less for those who rent property than for mortgage-holders.
Figures show that the average tenant spends £133.90 per week on commodities and services, while homeowners spend over 60 per cent more - £216.60 per week - on similar items.
"It is true that homeowners are likely to suffer a real change in their standard of living as costs rise," admitted Sean Gardner, director of Money Expert.
He went on to say that those who rent are "les exposed to these factors" as they do not have to remortgage and won't suffer any equity losses.
This news follows research by credit reference agency Equifax that showed that one in five people who own London property are worried about repossessions as the credit crunch takes hold.
