Royal Quay regeneration 'in full flow'
A South-East London community is being regenerated, in a bid to preserve its rich history and make it into a sustainable area well adapted to the needs and living trends of modern life in the capital.
A joint project between the London Development Agency (LDA) and Furlong City is well under way at Royal Quay in the London Docklands, with a new community emerging that will be attractive to both renters and buyers looking to set up in the area.
Seeking to create a new waterfront community around the historic Gallions Hotel, a listed building, the project will see more than 400 riverside apartments constructed, a new burst of commercial property and a newly-constructed yacht basin, as well as the reopening of the Gallions building as a café, bar, restaurant and fitness club.
Leading private house builder Glaledale has been recruited for the project, developing a new division for the purposes and signalling its intent to make the best of its collaborative public-private regeneration projects like Royal Quay.
Gladedale group chief executive David Gaffney said: "We see the new Special Projects division playing an increasing role in Gladedale's expansion over the next five years.
"Over the last few years, we've built up considerable expertise in delivering complex, mixed use schemes such as Royal Quay in London Docklands, Oatlands in Glasgow, and the Quartermile development in Edinburgh."
