Rental tenants 'to benefit from green strategy'
People renting a home who are concerned they do not have the power to invest in improvements designed to make it more energy efficient may be pleased to hear the details of a new government green strategy which was announced yesterday (March 2nd).
According to the Department of Energy and Climate Change, new standards for the rental sector are set to be proposed as part of the initiative.
One of the main elements of the Warm Homes, Greener Homes Strategy is to help those in private rented accommodation whose landlords have little incentive to take action and who are forced to live in poorly insulated and cold accommodation as a result.
Commenting on the news, John Healey, minister for housing, said: "People in their own homes will get help with costs and there will be help for private landlords and tenants, but we're also ready to regulate in the future if landlords will not do the green refurbishment needed."
Such news may be welcomed by those looking for flats to rent in Blackheath or another part of London who are committed to leading more energy efficient lives and also reducing their utility bills.
Tenants may also be pleased to hear they can take part in the boiler scrappage scheme by applying to the Energy Saving Trust to find out if they are eligible for money off a new condensing boiler.
