Property in Newham commended
Houses and flats in Newham are an example of how zero carbon housing around the Olympic Village should be, according to Green Party member Darren Johnson.
property in Newham highlights the "new standard" in green building, he explained.
Mr Johnson's comments came after it was announced that the London 2012 Olympic Village is going to benefit from £324 million in public money.
"If the public is paying for the Olympic Village then it should be a showcase for green design, and the future of building in London," he said.
Only having 20 per cent of energy generated at the Village by renewable energy "is ridiculously un-ambitious, the politician added.
Two of the major legacy aims of the Games are to boost environmentally-friendliness in the capital and regenerate areas of East London.
Construction work started on the Olympic Village in the region ten months ago.
