People looking for flats to rent in London may wish to choose reputable landlords
People looking for flats to rent in London may decide to choose a reputable landlord following the news that one student suffered horrific injuries following a fire in her flat.
Layla Skalli, a 20-year-old student, endured 80 per cent burns after the blaze created heat that was intense enough to melt her hair to the floor, the Norwich Evening News reports.
Ms Skalli is now claiming £2 million in damages, with her QC Christopher Wilson-Smith telling the judge that her landlord - 55-year-old Michael Billings of Barsham - had acted negligently by failing to provide fire precautions such as smoke alarms and fire-fighting equipment.
"Had any of the aforementioned steps been taken, she would have been alerted to the fire and would have escaped without suffering the injuries that she did," he stated.
Last week, recent graduate Harry Harris explained the series of events that led to him and five friends being conned out of £1,600 pounds each after they handed over cash to a bogus landlord.
