Newham residents are 'ageing well'
Newham Council has been recognised at a Europe-wide event for its telehealthcare service.
The London borough received the Ageing Well award for its work in promoting social inclusion through the technology.
Older people living in the area in particular are benefiting from the solutions, which monitor risks and alert healthcare providers automatically so support can be provided.
More than 2,400 systems have been installed over the last 18 months, allowing residents to remain in their homes for longer.
The honour was bestowed at the 2008 e-inclusion conference in Vienna, with Newham Council named as one of seven award winners among nearly 500 entrants.
Schools in the borough are set to benefit from a share of £3.55 billion of government funding, it was announced recently.
The money comes as part of a rebuilding and refurbishment programme and councillor Quintin Peppiatt noted that it would "help to transform education in Newham".
