New train link for Hammersmith & Fulham mooted
Councillor Nick Botterill thinks a new network of high-speed trains - with a major hub at Old Oak in West London - would be a good alternative to building a third runway at Heathrow Airport.
Speaking on behalf of the 2M Group, a committee of councillors opposed to the new runway plans at the UK's busiest airport, Mr Botterill said that the recent change in transport secretary is a good time to reassess the situation.
Residents of flats to rent in Hammersmith & Fulham would be among a whole host of UK consumers to benefit from a new rail service that would stretch across the country, it would seem.
And now that Lord Adonis has taken on Geoff Hoon's role in the cabinet, authorities could make the construction happen.
"We know Lord Adonis is enthusiastic about high speed rail," said Mr Botterill. "But we have to get him to see a national network of high speed rail links - with a major hub at Old Oak - would provide a genuine alternative to short-haul flights."
