'More tenants' looking for green properties
Tenants are acting as the driving force behind the UK's property sector boosting its green credentials, one sector commentator has asserted.
Clive Bull, a partner at real estate advisor Cushman & Wakefield, said that as the housing and commercial property market emerged from the economic downturn of the last few years, sustainability issues were starting to come to the forefront.
"Obviously the landlords want to [improve energy efficiency], but ultimately what owners of buildings do is produce the stock that the occupiers of buildings want. If the occupier says they want this, then the landlord will probably do it," he added.
Indeed, Britons looking for offices or flats to rent in Wandsworth or another area of London may be keen to ensure that their home's impact on the environment is minimal.
Another draw of sustainable properties, according to the Energy Saving Trust, is their ability to pass on green savings to tenants through reduced annual utility bills.
