Mayor sets out transport vision
London mayor Boris Johnson has set out his vision for the future of transport in London.
The mayor's strategic vision, entitled Way to Go, was released today, containing a number of proposals concerning traffic, cycling and public transport.
Ideas contained in the plan include Crossrail, increasing the capacity of the Tube and introducing more air-conditioned trains, the introduction of modern Routemaster buses, more investment in policing and CCTV, plus the creation of new cycle routes into Central London.
Mr Johnson said: "I want to improve Londoners' quality of life and we will be investing billions in achieving this through better transport."
Such enhancements could improve the quality of life for those renting in London.
Yesterday it was revealed that the British Airports Authority (BAA) is contributing £230 million towards Crossrail.
BAA donated the money in a deal that will see Crossrail running four trains a day eastwards across the city from Heathrow when the service starts in 2017.
