Mayor happy with London transport crime reduction
London mayor Boris Johnson has welcomed the success of three pilot schemes in the capital that have helped bring down crime on public transport.
Official figures have indicated that the areas concerned have seen crime on buses fall by 16 per cent, with robberies down 38 per cent and violent crimes by 5.6 per cent.
The schemes operated by placing policing teams on buses.
Mr Johnson has now announced that these methods will now be applied across the capital.
He stated: "I don't believe there is a plague of out-of-control kids all across London. There is a minority that needs to be deterred. We need to create reassurance."
Such a development could help lower the chance of those renting in London becoming a victim of crime while using public transport.
In another move that could help deal with crime and improve public safety on London's public transport network, the police digital radio system known as airwave has now gone live.
The last two stations to be connected to the network, Leicester Square and Bank, are now integrated, enabling the police to communicate underground, IT Pro reports.
